*That moment when you realize WE ARE THE FUTURE!
Gender
stereotyping is very evident after reading only the first act and scene of Romeo and Juliet. We get to read about
how Sampson (a servant to Lord Capulet) would “push Montague's men from
the wall, and thrust his maids to the wall." Sampson says
this to his fellow servant Gregory because he finds women weak. He is basically
saying that he would frighten all the Montague men and in other words, take
advantage of the Montague women. His words are very degrading and sexist and it’s
obviously not an issue that has faded away in today’s society either. There are
still many sexist men and women. It’s actually very unfortunate that we haven’t
overcome this matter because everyone should have the right to be treated
equally, no matter the gender, race or religion. Until everyone learns that,
many people will have to suffer the hurtful comments and rude remarks, similar
to what Sampson was saying. I think that the only way we can overcome the
gender stereotyping matter, is to teach the new generations equality. It may
sound cheesy but we are the future!
Great job connecting gender stereotypes to our modern lives!
